Race: 1- HIGHWAY PLATE 1100m
What a great Highway to start the day. Noble Joey is already proven at this level having placed in this class, and performed reasonably well in a number of Highway starts. He returned with a huge win a Goulburn and looks on track. Atom Eve is yet to be beaten in three career starts which included a Highway win back in January. He comes in here after a freshen-up but looks to have a bit of class. Bid of Faith is also lightly raced and has only missed the placings once in five starts. She looks the danger to the main two.
The Early Crows Top Tip: Atom Eve @ $2.00
Race: 2- RICHMOND CLUB PROVINCIAL STAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL 2100m
Two imports for big stables will draw most of the attention in this one. Duca Valentinois has had four starts in Australia which included an impressive win over a mile at Warwick Farm last start. He has two wins at the 2000m, including his last start in Ireland, so you would expect this would suit him down to the ground. Hipparchus is having his third start for Chris Waller after flying home in very impressive fashion in his two previous including a huge two-length win at Kembla over 2000m. Still only lightly raced, he looks to have a lot of scope for improvement.
Early Crows Top Tip: Hipparchus @ $3.50
Race: 3- BLAKES MARINE CLARET STAKES 1300m
The blue jackets seem to have a pretty tight stranglehold on this one. Forget about Radcliffe’s debut run where nothing went his way. There was a lot to like about his win at Warwick Farm where he hit the line very strongly which suggests he’ll love the 1300m. Angharad has won her last two races at Gosford and Wyong and looks to have a bit of talent. From barrier 8 she should roll forward again and could give them a lot to chase. This is a step up, but she is definitely among the main chances.
Early Crows Top Tip: Radcliffe @ $2.30
Race: 4- HAWKESBURY XXXX GOLD RUSH 1100m
Kuro is easily the class runner in this field and accordingly get the top weight. This is his first race for Joe Pride, and after a freshen-up and trial win he looks right on track to run a big race. This is a massive step down in class from the Oakleigh Plate, and he always runs well fresh, the big question is the 61kgs. Alberto Magic is a very impressive sprinter who claimed a Group 3 victory over the carnival. He failed to run out the 1200m last start, and after a month off looks much better placed back at the 1100m in a lower class.
Early Crows Top Tip: Alberto Magic @ $5.00
Race: 5- LANDER TOYOTA LADIES DAY CUP BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1300m
Not the most inspiring race on the card. This is exactly Gamblestown’s mark, and she has actually won in higher grades. However, she can be quite inconsistent and really mixes her form. But judging by her first-up run over 1000m at Warwick Farm she is the one to beat. The Kris Lees’ pair Danish Twist and Onemorezeta also look huge chances but come in from a lower grade. Danish Twist does seem to have the more scope for improvement, and you have to respect the jockey choice. She’s the main danger.
Early Crows Top Tip: Gamblestown @ $7.50
Race: 6- 2016 GODOLPHIN CROWN 1300m
A very close race with a lot of chances. Two Blue won the Sapphire Stakes last start at big odds and meets many of these worse at the weights from there. But she is ultra consistent and being a leader is a huge tick. Artistry’s only real failure was against in open class and in a Group 1 last start. She is much better suited back here against her own age and looks to be the best of them. Ammirata was very impressive in her first-up win last start where she flew home. She will love the extra ground here.
Early Crows Top Tip: Artistry @ $8.00
Race: 7- PANTHERS HAWKESBURY GOLD CUP 1600m
A very difficult race to draw a line through with a lot of mixed form and runners resuming. Mighty Lucky beat much of this field first-up last start at Randwick. Many expected that to be a bit sharp for him, but he showed his class. This is his pet level and distance and he’s the one to beat. Strawberry Boy finished a very narrow third in that race and will take a lot out of that start. He has a great second-up record and the mile is his favourite distance. He can certainly turn the tables today and should win.
Early Crows Top Tip: Strawberry Boy @ $5.00
Race: 8- BLACKTOWN WORKERS HAWKESBURY GUINEAS 1400m
This race looks very light for class and could be perfectly set up for Spill The Beans. While he has only had the one start over 1400m where he was a well-beaten fourth, that was against many of the best three-year-olds in the country. He will come across and lead again here, and could just have the class to finish off the race. Handfast looks the biggest danger. He was a big winner last start over this trip and have been progressing very nicely this campaign. He will be flashing home and should win if Spill The Beans doesn’t run the trip.
Early Crows Top Tip: Spill The Beans @ $3.50
Race: 9- FISHBOY SEAFOODS BENCHMARK 77 HANDICAP 1500m
Leaning strongly towards Trafalgar in the last who looks like he could be a bit of a talent. Only lightly raced with five career starts, he is yet to miss the placings and won very well first-up over 1300m. He has won out to 1900m so the distance won’t pose any problems. Star Wars has been up for quite some time now but continues to put in very strong and consistent runs. He loves this trip and has won around this class, he’s a huge chance. Marple Miss has shown glimpses in the past, and could be a smokey at odds.
Early Crows Top Tip: Trafalgar @ $4.00
Race: 1- WINDSOR MANAGEMENT INSURANCE BROKERS OPEN Handicap 2200m
Lock's Legend has been up for a while now and performing well in strong company over a mile. He will find the extra distance here right up his alley and will be very hard to beat. Maurus is easily the class runner in the field and has been placed on multiple occasions in black type company in Sydney. First-up at 2200m after a freshen up and two trials could be a big ask, but at his best this race should be a strong springboard into a carnival campaign.
The Early Crows Top Tip: Maurus @ $2.30
Race: 2- BUILDING EMPLOYEES REDUNDANCY TRUST BRIBIE HANDICAP 1050m
Angels Beach is a very talented sprinter who has been performing very well at stakes level. Her rider reported she raced flat last start when she was well beaten in Sydney, if you can forgive that run she’s the top pick. Kudero has been ticking over for a while in Brisbane now and has been very consistent around this level. He has the fitness edge on many of these and can feature. Secret Saga is a very talented filly who is a listed winner. I can forgive her last start failure where she looked over the top, she can win here fresh.
The Early Crows Top Tip: Secret Saga @ $5.00
Race: 3- CONSTRUCTION INCOME PROTECTION QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap 1350m
Looking at the top for the main chances in this race. Fiery Heights has had six starts this preparation and is yet to finish any worse than second. He will lead or be handy and could take a lot of catching. Camouflage comes into this on the back of three straight wins in lower class. Barrier 12 is a slight worry, but he should sit just off the speed and can feature. Stella Ombra has only missed a place once in 11 career starts including his last start win in town. Hard to see him turning the tables on Fiery Heights, but is a huge chance.
The Early Crows Top Tip: Fiery Heights @ $3.90
Race: 4- SERVICE TRADES COLLEGE QTIS Two-Years-Old Plate 1110m
A very even race where no one would be a surprise winner. Hostwin Legend does look to be the best of them having performed reasonably well in Sydney. He has been well found in the market in two of his three career starts, including his last start win at Hawkesbury. You also have to respect the fact they tested him at black type level. He has an awkward barrier, but that shouldn’t be an excuse against this field. Tiyatrolani was a massive winner in her only start so far at Ipswich. Just how good that win was is yet to be seen, but she could be anything.
The Early Crows Top Tip: Hostwin Legend @ $11.00
Race: 5- ARA FIRE BenchMark 85 Handicap 1630m
Finding it very hard to split two very talented city class runners in this. Heart Of A Warrior is having his seventh start this preparation and is yet to miss the placings in his past eight. He almost exclusively runs in this class and distance every start and will be very tough to hold out. Reckless Abandon has been progressing very well this preparation and has won his past three including the last two at the mile. It’s impossible to knock winning form, and he is perfectly drawn to sit just off the lead and finish off the strongest.
The Early Crows Top Tip: Reckless Abandon @ $2.30
Race: 6- NATIONAL FIRE INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION QLD VICTORY STAKES 1200m
It is almost impossible to find a winner outside of Fell Swoop who is simply one of the best sprinters in the country. This preparation has seen a second in the Oakleigh Plate and TJ Smith Stakes, and a fourth in The Galaxy. His second in the Oakleigh Plate was by the narrowest of margins, and it took arguably the best sprinter in the world to beat him in the TJ Smith. He will be far too sharp for this field and will easily chalk up a big win.
The Early Crows Top Tip: Fell Swoop @ $1.65
Race: 7- ANTEC GUNSYND CLASSIC 1630m
Too Good To Refuse ran home very strongly after being well found in the market at Doomben. He didn’t fire a shot in a hot race during the Sydney carnival, but this is certainly around his mark. I'm Belucci was also disappointing in his only run in Sydney, but has been very competitive in this grade back in Brisbane. He won’t mind the drop back to a mile and will give them plenty to chase. Cylinder Beach annihilated the field in his last start well going forward. This is a big step up in class, but you have to respect a win that big.
The Early Crows Top Tip: Belucci @ $9.00
Race: 8- PERTRONIC INDUSTRIES Class 6 Plate 1350m
A bit of a bludger of a race to finish the day. I’m only really interested in Trubia, who has won his past five races, including his last three in this class. He easily beat home the rest of the field last start which included some of these so it’s hard to see the tables being turned. Harada Bay has to be considered on the back of his spring campaign in Melbourne where he was very good. You need to forgive his huge loss in the Magic Millions to back him with any confidence, but at his best he is probably better than this field.
The Early Crows Top Tip: Trubia @ $2.60
