ADVANTAGE was on debut last start and it was a horrible introduction to racing for him. He was backed into favouritism, despite drawing wide. Some other runners played up at the gates and as a result, he stood scared and wide-eyed in the barriers for the entire nine minute delay. When they jumped, he stepped away okay but rushed forward and was three-wide most of the trip. He battled on bravely to fail by a long neck. Drawn perfectly here and with that experience under his belt, he looks a big threat.
If you’re betting on a budget, keep your powder dry until HARD SPARK bobs up in the last at Mildura. This is a BM 58 and she has form at BM 64 level, as shown last start when she sat off the pace at Echuca and rallied late to fail by just a length when placing 3rd. Drew deep and was wide that day. That was her fourth run this prep so she’s super fit now. Has perfect draw this time around too.
Tip: HARD SPARK
Trained by Kris Lees, this improving mare should settle around midfield, poised one off the fence all the way. Tamworth is wide enough so she can peel out and make a charge late. Her form this prep in weaker grade initially, then this company last start, has been excellent grounding for this. Looks perfectly placed to win.
